Hi People,

The guy's invited me to do a bit of blogging. So thanks for the convidence guys!
Here goes!

For my tournament at the start of October I'm making Moons.
I had 1 sphere in my bits box for ages to make a planet for BFG.
So it's something i had thought about making for some time on and off.
Life being life, that never happend.

So luckly DFC I fell for too! So here is how i did them!

These are sold as a pair for 5,60 euro's. If you are willing to go bulk even cheaper. For now this will do.

Making them is easy if you have a 3year old that loves to cut and carve.
If you aren't blessed with a randomizing human wonder, well randomize what you cut out.

You're options with this are the following:
- Knife
- Candle
- Paintstripping gun
- Wall filler magic mix

I went with the knife and 3year old helping over a blanket(Don't tell the misses)
saves on cleaning up time after.
After the randomizer is done, add a bit of line's to large cratters plus small cratters between the big ones. Don't forget to do the bottom edge!

Than i put got a hotairgun(aka the hairdryer**) and went over the spheres.
This melts the lines and craters a bit more random and lets it look less cut.

I got a piece of sanding paper 120th and sanded the "flat" parts roughly, because next i added my version of magic mix.
Latex paint, Woodglue (PVA), bit of sand, fine/medium gravel and acrylic coloured paint.

That went on as heavy as a Marine on... well...hmm... ask George... This fills some of the craters up again, but will crack when drying overnight. and the gravel will get you some weird looking mountain heaps. Before i left it I sprinkled some glitter on them. My idea of indicating they are rescources, and well that's what my 3y old did on the first set.

Drybrush like crazy several times, i went with white and yellow mixed up a bit and pure white on the blue.
Add a wash of your choice in the deepest parts. I went with Rust Orange from AV.

Then a final drybrush/stampeling and you're done!

It looks a lot better like this on the table than salade bowls, cut outs or anything else I've seen online!

Have fun making them people!

** DO NOT, DO NOT run a hairdryer to long on the hottest setting. Unless you want it to burn through its safety. 7-10second bursts will do just fine!

thlz episode 18: the white sphere speaks....

This is why Cyborgs are a bad idea...

This week myself and The Bruce talk about the epic PHR fleet deck, yes it is epic. The Duncan Levi gets mocked for having a battle report and not showing to talk about it. Then we talk about bad news, but it's ok we follow up with some good news. So sit back relax and enjoy this cast.

THLZ Episode 16: New Fleet Directives's have been received

Now we have very good reason's to have an admiral in the fleet.

Damion and I finally start our reviews of the Fleet Decks, starting with the UCM, and there is some great stuff in the deck. But instead of talking about it here, you have to play the transmission from our databanks.

THLZ Episode 15: Strike Carriers and Corvettes, Oh Myyy...

Some seasoning to go with your meat and potatoes.

As we finish up book content the Duncan Levi and Bruce chat with me about Corvettes and Strike Carriers, all of which seem good since each faction only has one. There was also alot of tourneys that happened the weekend of recording. And AWESOME battle report from Oleksiy Kirsenko

THLZ Episode 14: Some times size does matter

They can be quick, they can be annoying, they can round out your fleet...

Frigates are this weeks discussion as Peter, and Jason A. delve into probably the most underrate and underused ships, in my case, Damion and Bruce also show up to chime in as well

THLZ Episode 13: Goooooooood morning, Eden Prime!

Every ship has a use in a fleet, if you figure out the light cruisers, please email us and let us know....

The week myself, Damion, Jason the Bruce, and fresh off unpacking arrest Levi, talk about light cruisers. And light cruisers are like light beer, there are a couple that are good, but most aren't worth the time. We do cover the fact the the Scourge light cruisers are aces in a list, and how it would be shocking to find the others in a list. Damion shares a batter report, and confirms what I have been saying about the Shaltari.

THLZ Episode #12 These are a little different...

The Cruisers that aren't Cruisers but are Crusiers...

Peter and I talk about some ships that are technically Cruisers, but fill rolls that only these ships can fill, carriers and bulk landers. Oh and a silly ship called a mother ship. And of course we have some pretty pics from Salute, big shout out to Beast of War for letting us use the pictures they took.

THLZ Episode 11: Some are more useful than others...

These are the ships that are there to get the work done, some are like me and get a lot done, some are like Jason the Bruce and only take up space.

Just kidding Jason you are useful unlike some of the Cruisers we talk about this episode. Every faction has a workhorse, and every faction has the creepy uncle that only shows up for the holidays. If you don't get it, you don't have any uncles. Damion is also pretty salty about the effectiveness of PHR shooting.  And Damion meant to say Alan, not Adam...

THLZ Episode 10: Lets experiment with some things

The Experimental Rules From Hawk Have Been Made Public, Reactions Are Positive...

Damion, Jason, and myself finally talk about the experimental rules that Hawk and the Talons have been working on in the backroom. We like them for the most part, hell even I agree with the nerfs to the shaltnangains.

Ready Your Fleet... For Paint.

In a Galaxy of Grey, This Looks Awesome.

Christoph Schult was kind enough to send us the painting tutorial he made for painting his UCM fleet. Check it out, I hope you learn something, and become inspired.

When I posted the first test pieces for this scheme I got asked to do a tutorial, so here is how to paint Battlefleet Vanadium:

THLZ Episode 8: The Slightly Dynamic Duo

If the Battleships are King, Battlecruisers are the Crown Prince.

We're back, and talking about battlecruisers, but due to real life it is just myself and Damion (Lysenis). These right now kickstarter exclusive ships can pack a punch and in this episode we tell you our opinion of much they pack. Damion (Lysenis) also gives you what information he can about the changes coming to the game.

Battle Report: PHR Vs. Shalthari 1250 Points

The both lists were different...

So on a fine Saturday in the past, The Post Human Republic moved into to orbit where they engaged an unsuspecting Shaltari fleet.  This game was played with Scenario 1: Take and Hold at 1250 points using the Rapid Response approach type.

This is my first attempt at a video battle report, myself and Will decide on the spur of the moment to record it. I am fairly happy with how it turned out both audio and video quality wise. Hopefully this will be the first of many.

Because Cardboard Is Silly

Dropfleet Tokens by Alex Barton

Dropfleet commander; troop and defence laser counters for the UCM

I love the visuals of a game on the table and will try and escape card markers and tokens whenever possible, for DfC that's proved quite a challenge but I'm getting there!

THLZ Episode 7: Errata Has Arrived.

We had some questions, we got some answers.

Sooner than expected, we got an errata to the rules and some questions answered. Due to real life and some scheduling conflicts, it only myself and Jason the Bruce on this podcast, but that didn't stop us as we covered the errata and the questions that got answered. We cover CANCON some and we also  talk about Alex Barton's excellent troop and tank tokens he made.

Say Hello To My Little Friend

Is the Shaltari Diamond-class Battleship overpowered?

So I played my first game at 1750 points, using Shaltari. This was also my first time playing with a battleship. For this game I opted to use the Diamond. The other primary fire support for this was was an Onyx, Amber, Obsidian, Jet, and six Amethyst frigates. With a very similar profile to the Obsidian with three particle lances, but instead of having to go weapons free to fire three shots, the Diamond is able to do this on a standard order.

Battle Report: The Co-Hosts duel again!

Hello THLZ fans! It is I, Levi, and my battle-buddy, Jason A, from The HotLZ Podcast! Today we bring you a written battle report of my first 1500 point game against Jason’s PHR. Read on and enjoy!

Big shout out to Ian Gilbraith at WargamingMats for supplying the vinyl mat we used. It is a fantastic product. Light weight, matte finished, and durable. The models do not slide around, the mat quickly lays flat (even when cold because it was in the trunk of a car for a while). Another good thing is for us US gamers, he can have them printed and shipped stateside, which means CRAZY CHEAP MATS THAT ARE REALLY HIGH QUALITY. Seriously though, check him out on Facebook, or go to his eBay store directly. He’s got a ton of designs in both 6x4, 4x4, and formats for a few other games. I received my mat within 3 days of it being shipped and I live in Kansas. I was a little hesitant about the vinyl material because I’ve never seen it before, but if you have seen the Chessex square grid mats that RPGs sometimes use, it’s the same material, but thicker. If you can’t afford (or don’t want to shell out the cash) for other mat materials, like mouse mat, then give this guy a look-see. It’s good stuff!

Shaltari Weapon Investments 101

Disintegrator Banks Are A Better Return On Your Investment

Having played a few games now, all the way up to 2000 points, I have fallen in love with a group. No it is not my Amethyst spam, which I do love that group as well, it is my Vanguard  group consisting of an Onyx, Amber, and two Topaz.
